We often get asked “What do you do all summer with the students gone?” To this we reply “Plenty of projects!”

From mid-May to late August, you will find the library staff engaged in a series of activities. During the school year our main focus is on bibliographic instruction, manning the reference desk, and helping the Eastern community find information. It’s throughout the summer months that we have the time to address a the growing list of projects kept all year that we just can’t find the time to accomplish during the school semesters. Listed below are just a few things currently keeping us busy…

• New library catalog
  This is by far our biggest project. We are currently in the process of changing our catalog to a new, sleek looking interface that not only provides easier access to finding resources in Warner, but it will also for the first time enable all of Eastern’s libraries to share one catalog. To make this switch over happen, we spend a large amount of time readying thousands of item records & patron data for the migration.
• Inventory
  Since our circulation numbers considerably decrease during the summer months, May-August tends to be an ideal time to inventory parts of our collection.
  
• Shelf-Reading
  Believe it or not, it’s during the summer months that the library staff takes time to look at every book in the library’s stacks and confirm that its in its proper location.
• Identifying new resources
  Since we don’t receive many requests for research help from students & faculty, we instead spend that time researching potential new resources, whether it be a database, book, or new service.
• Creating Research Resources
  We also spend the summer months creating & updating research resources like our video tutorials & our LibGuides.

During Summer Session II, the library is open Mondays-Thursdays 8:00am to 7:30pm; Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm; and Saturdays 11:00am to 3:00pm. We are CLOSED on Sundays.
