Researching on the go!

In a similar vein to last week’s post on e-book readers, I wanted to highlight the library’s mobile resources. Like e-book readers, many people are accessing information through non-traditional routes. Pew Internet & American Life performed a survey between April 29 and May 30, 2010, among a sample of 2,252 adults, age 18 and older. They found that 59% of adults now access the internet wirelessly, either through laptops or mobile phones (read the entire study here).

The library is starting to offer some databases and services through a mobile-friendly interface. Listed below are a few resources that are currently accessible through mobile phone interfaces. This week on October 22nd and 23rd, we will be available to show you on your phone how to use these new interfaces. Now you can research on the go!

Mobile-Friendly Resources

EBSCOhost Mobile: This application is made for the smaller screens of mobile devices, and offers the most important EBSCOhost features and functionality right in the palm of your hand. You can perform a basic search, view HTML/PDF full-text, email articles, and more!

RefWorks Mobile: RefWorks Mobile allows you to manage your citations/resources while you’re on the go. Through a mobile-friendly interface, you can search your entire RefWorks databases, view references by folders, add and remove references from folders, create new folders, and add comments to notes fields.

Blackboard Mobile Learn application: Available on Sprint Network Android and BlackBerry phones, and on iPhone OS powered devices over a WiFi connection. View course announcements, discussions, grades, journals and more!

LibGuides Mobile: View Warner Library’s research guides on your mobile phone! Visit http://libguides.eastern.edu on your mobile phone and the LibGuides system auto-detects your device and displays for you the mobile version.
