Horror for your dorm

If you’ve been to the library lately, you’ve probably seen our Halloween display.

  1. Monsterland by Nathan Ballingrud. Originally published as ‘North American Lake Monsters’ in 2013, this short story collection was made into an anthology by Hulu in 2020. From the comfort and safety of your own dorm, you can compare and contrast these short stories to their adaptations.
  2. But You Scared Me The Most by John Manderino. Like a good horror-comedy? This is the short story collection for you. Featuring recognizable horror figures like Dracula, the werewolf, and hitchhiking ghost, in outrageous yet believable situations; this anthology is bound to get a laugh.
  3. The Glassy, Burning Floor Of Hell by Brian Evenson. A combination of psychological and ecological horror, this short story collection portrays a frightening future. There’s also a sentient prosthetic leg with murder on it’s mind. Proceed with caution.
  4. Ghost Stories: The Best Of The Daily Telegraph’s Ghost Story Competition. One of my favorite things about anthologies is that if I don’t like the author’s style, or a story isn’t connecting with me, I can easily jump to the next one with no consequence. These six stories made the shortlist in a competition filled with thousands of entries.
  5. Nightmares: A New Decade Of Modern Horror. As far as horror anthologies go, Ellen Datlow is queen. For years, she’s successfully published the Best Horror Of The Year collection, and has several other successful anthologies under her belt. Nightmares is another one of her successes, featuring authors like Nathan Ballingrud, Laird Barron, and Garth Nix.
